In its second season, Scalehouse Voices facilitates talks with practicing local and visiting artists, as well as scholars and teachers of art, to explore ideas and techniques, practice and process, and creativity and culture.

Inspired by such disparate voices as poet Mary Oliver and psychoanalyst DW Winnicot, Portland-based painter and photographer John Houck dwells at the intersection of perception, computer science, and psychoanalysis. Houck’s art invites us to recall the roles of play and spontaneity in our lives of technical repetition and digital uniformity.

With art housed in permanent collections in every region of the United States, his voice is truly far reaching. We are fortunate to host him on November 13th to discuss art and technology, and if we are lucky his newest hobby, beekeeping.

Hosted by OSU-Cascades and produced by Scalehouse, Scalehouse Voices is a series of artist talks featuring the fresh voices, perspectives, and ideas of nationally and internationally acclaimed artists, designers, and scholars.
