Tyekson Hall, Rm 111
THIS EVENT HAS PASSED.
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Scalehouse is thrilled to present Scalehouse Voices, a series of talks with visiting artists of diverse disciplines, exploring ideas and techniques, practice and process, creativity and culture.
The series continues June 22 with Daniel Steinle and Shawn Small of Ruckus Composites, whose shop aims to keep carbon fiber out of landfills and make broken bikes better, using science, engineering, design—and a 3-D printer.
Their podcast includes a playlist called Fiber Side Chats, a series of conversations with other creative thinkers and makers in cycling. Ruckus doesn’t stop at bicycles, though—ask Shawn about that time he launched a hot dog into space.
ABOUT RUCKUS COMPOSITES:
Founded in 2008 by Shawn Small, Ruckus Composites started with a love of bicycle technology, a degree in mechanical engineering and drive to make change. Ruckus has an honest desire to change the world and shake things up through engineering, art, conservation, and science. They strive to educate themselves and the community about bicycle science. They focus continuously on setting the standard for carbon fiber inspection, repair, and environmentalism. They are engineers, innovators, artists, problem solvers, scientists, and cyclists, and their aim is to continuously refine and develop new composite repair technologies to further the outdoor industry and leave the world better off than when they started. Find them on the web, on Instagram, and on Facebook.
