ABOUT THE EVENT:

Semiotics is the study of signs and symbolism in our visual culture. We encounter imagery more and faster today than at any time in the past, and everything we see contains layers of symbolism. This workshop gives participants the tools to recognize and understand the layers of meaning behind what you see on the surface, look at the implications of semiotics for visual culture, and how they create a foundation for visual storytelling, giving images the power of a story.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Daniela Molnar works in a range of forms including painting, art direction, design, a collaborative poetry/visual art project, and writing. She is a Trip Leader and Vice President of the Board for Signal Fire, an organization that provides opportunities for artists to engage with and defend public wild lands, and Art Editor for The Bear Deluxe Magazine and Leaf Litter, two art and literary publications focused on the intersection of art and environmental issues. Daniela is a full-time Assistant Professor at PNCA. View her work here.
